In a PPR installation, pipe and fittings are joined by heat: at the joint the pipe and the fitting melt together and, once cool, become one piece. With no seal and no adhesive in it, this joint is the most reliable way to keep hot- and cold-water lines watertight. AY BUILDING supplies PP-R and PP-RCT pipe and fittings from the German manufacturer Polymelt.

  1. Pipe

Pipe made of PP-R or PP-RCT. The pressure class (SDR) sets the wall thickness: at the same outer diameter, a lower SDR means a thicker wall and a higher pressure rating.

  2. Fitting

Couplings, elbows, tees and adaptors. The pipe end goes into the fitting's socket.

  3. Fusion joint

Pipe end and socket are heated at the same time on the welding tool and pushed together. Once cool, pipe and fitting are one material, with no seal or adhesive between them. The bead that forms at the socket mouth shows the weld is complete.

  4. Wall thickness

At the same outer diameter, the wall thickness changes with the pressure class. Sizes from Ø20 mm to Ø125 mm are in the table below.

Installation

The pipes are cut square and clean. The pipe end and the fitting's socket are heated together on the welding tool, joined straight away and left to cool without being moved. The finished line is pressure-tested; on hot-water lines, room is left for the pipe's thermal expansion.

Where it is used

  • Domestic hot- and cold-water systems
  • Hotel and hospital water lines
  • Heating systems
  • Industrial water lines

When to choose it

For hot- and cold-water lines where corrosion and scale are to be avoided. PP-RCT is used for higher temperatures and pressures, PP-R for standard lines.
