An electric storage water heater heats water in an insulated tank and keeps it ready to use. When a tap is opened, hot water is drawn from the top of the tank and cold water flows in at the bottom to replace it. AY BUILDING supplies Polymelt water heaters together with PPR installations; capacities and models are given on request.

  1. Inner tank

The steel tank that holds the water under pressure. Its inner surface is protected against corrosion, and the tank's life depends largely on that protection.

  2. Insulation and casing

The insulating layer between the tank and the outer casing. It keeps the water hot for hours and cuts the energy the heater uses while standing.

  3. Heating element

The electric element in the lower part of the tank. Water heats from the bottom; as it warms it rises and collects at the top.

  4. Thermostat

Holds the water at the set temperature by switching the element on and off. A separate safety thermostat guards against overheating.

  5. Magnesium anode

A magnesium rod hanging inside the tank. It corrodes in place of the tank, and is checked and replaced as it wears.

  6. Connections and safety valve

Cold water enters at the bottom; hot water is drawn from the top of the tank. The safety valve on the cold inlet stops backflow and releases water if the pressure limit is exceeded.

Installation

The heater hangs on a mounting bracket, on a wall strong enough to carry its weight. A safety valve is fitted on the cold inlet, and the inlet and outlet are connected to the pipework. The electrical connection is made only once the tank is completely full; the heater must never be switched on empty.

Where it is used

  • Homes and apartments
  • Hotels and guesthouses
  • Workplaces and office kitchens
  • Sports facilities and changing rooms

When to choose it

Where there is no central hot-water system, or where hot water is to be made with electricity. Capacity is chosen for the number of taps and showers used at the same time; options on request.
