Sun-shading keeps direct sun off the glass with aluminium blades set in front of the façade. In the hot hours it cuts heat gain and glare while keeping the view out. On fixed systems the blade angle is set once; on adjustable systems the blades turn, by hand or by motor.

  1. Façade bracket

Fixes the shading to the façade or the building structure and carries its wind load into the building. The fixing is detailed with an isolator so that it does not become a thermal bridge.

  2. Carrier profile

The profile that holds the blades and sets their spacing and arrangement.

  3. Blades

Extruded aluminium blades. Their section, width and spacing are chosen for the façade being shaded, the angle of the sun and the wind load.

  4. Pivot

On adjustable systems, the axle each blade turns on. The blades turn together, by hand or by motor, to follow the sun.

Installation

Bracket positions are set out on the façade structure and the brackets fixed. The carrier profiles go onto the brackets, and the blades are fitted one by one and set to angle. On motorised systems the drive and controls are connected last.

Where it is used

  • South- and west-facing façades
  • Office and school buildings
  • Glass-led commercial façades
  • Car parks and plant enclosures

When to choose it

Where a glass façade faces the sun and both shade and view are wanted. Fixed systems cost less; adjustable systems follow the sun through the day.
